Homemade Theragun; Theragun DIY
Massage guns have gained popularity among professional athletes, everyday athletes, celebrities, and even professional gamers. However, the price point of these massage guns is outside the range of what most are willing to spend. Through some powertool-hacking, several people online have figured out how to build their own massage guns to compete with the TheraGun, TimTam, and Hypervolt, but for more than half the price.
We’ve studied several of the massage guns that users online have developed and built themselves and outlined the instructions to build your own below.
What You’ll Need
- Worx Reciprocating Saw
- Lacrosse Ball
- Reciprotool Reciprocating Saw Adapter
- Power Extension Bit Set
- Gorilla Super Glue
- 3/16 drill bit
- Power drill (to drill hole in lacrosse ball)
Instructions
- Drill hole in lacrosse ball using 3/16 drill bit. Drill in the center of the ball. The hole should go approximately halfway into the ball.
- Attach the smallest power extension bit (1/4″) into your power drill. Put a few drops of super glue into the hole. The glue will help hold the big in place once drilled in. Insert the attached bit into your newly drilled hole int he lacross ball. Drill the actual bit into the ball so that the lacrosse ball and drill end up touching with the bit installed.
- Detach the ball/bit from the drill. There should be approximately an inch of the big left sticking out of the ball.
- Insert Reciprotool reciprocating saw adapter into your Worx saw. The adapter will be inserted into where the blade would typically go. It should click in.
- Insert you ball/bit into the adapter. Enjoy your new massage gun!
The benefit of this do-it-yourself massage gun is that it has a stronger voltage battery than the TheraGun. Additionally, this homemade massage gun come with variable speed control thanks to the Worx saw – something some of the top massage guns don’t have!
