G2PRO vs G3PRO

TheraGun G2PRO vs G3PRO

With TheraGun’s announcement and launch of the G3PRO, it may leave buyer’s with a tough decision on whether to go with the newer, more expensive G3PRO or consider the popular, G2PRO. Below we lay out side by side comparisons of each so that the potential shopper can make an educated purchase that suits their needs best.

What’s the Differences Between the G3PRO and the G2PRO?

TheraGun’s G2PRO is arguably the most popular and well-known massage gun currently on the market. So what changes has TheraGun made to the next generation of this device – The TheraGun G3Pro?

For starters, the most notable improvement is the noise level. TheraGun Founder Jason Wersland claims the G3PRO will be fifty percent quieter. Their proprietary gearbox has been re-designed to drastically reduce the noise of the powerful motor by several decibels. While our personal research was not able to conclude that the G3Pro is truly fifty percent quieter, they did make a big improvement in the overall noise. Check out our sound comparison video here. We compared the two devices at the same operating speed of 2400 RPMs and found the G3Pro to be about twenty percent quieter at that speed. However, their goal was to make it quieter and they did achieve that.

Outside of the operating volume, the next notable upgrade is the battery life. The battery life of the G2PRO was around 40-45 minutes. However, the battery life of the TheraGun G3PRO spans to 75 minutes (dependent on which speed level it is being utilized at), which greatly improves the appeal of this massage gun. It does once again come with 2 batteries to allow users to seamlessly continue massaging without the need to wait for a single battery to charge. The two battery concept is a great thought by TheraGun.

The next improvement they’ve added is a second speed function. The predecessor to the G3PRO was only a single speed unit. This additional speed setting allows the user to adjust speeds for tender areas or provide an increased speed for problem areas. The two functions will operate at 1750 RPMs and 2400 RPMs, respectively.

TheraGun has also given users 2 additional attachments, taking the previous number of 4 up to 6. The Wedge and Thumb attachments have been added to the arsenal. The Wedge is designed for scraping, targeting the shoulder blades, or IT bands. The Thumb is designed to target the lower back and be used for trigger point therapy.

The Thera Gun G3PRO does offer some extended adjustability for a full-body reach to those hard to get areas. This is similar to the G2PRO which allows users to massage at 4 pre-set angles. With the G3Pro, users can reach 90% of the body with the rotating arm and ergonomic hand for full body recovery. With the above improvements, ThereGun did take a few steps back in some other areas. While the amplitude and RPMs have not changed, remaining at 16mm and a maximum of 2,400 RPMs, respectively, they have decreased the stall force to 60 pounds on the G3Pro, which is 20 pounds less than the 80 pound force of the G2PRO. Users can also expect their arm to get a little bit more of a workout as the TheraGun G3PRO comes in at 1.4 ounces heavier, which shouldn’t really be noticed. Overall, the product has had a complete design overhaul, with very minimal compromise to it’s function.

The massager, depending on model, comes with four or six different attachments that each share the same purpose of aiding in sore muscle relief, but each attachment does it in it’s own way. Which TheraGun is right for you?

Which TheraGun is Right for You?

When it comes to deciding which TheraGun is right for you, that is something that only you can decide. However, in terms of specs, the TheraGun G3PRO is the outright winner. TheraGun knew what they were doing when rebuilding and redesigning their flagship product. With the extended battery life, variable speed controls, and increased rotation of the head, the G3PRO is simply more versatile.

With the maximum RPMs and amplitude remaining the same, if you don’t need the added flexibility, the ultimate decision is going to come down to price. The G3PRO is priced around two hundred dollars more at the time of this article, but the G2PRO is also currently sold out on many sites so buyers may not have an option. It is unclear if the G2Pro is something TheraGun will continue to manufacture.

If price is a huge concern, we would recommend buyers also look into competing products from TimTam and Hyperice.
